Departments

The departments of the Institute have different thematic orientations and are divided into separate working units.
Department 1 contains the working units Competencies, Learning Environments, Personality, and Early Childhood and School Education, which are the pillars of NEPS with an essential reference to psychological and pedagogical research traditions. The department is currently led in an acting capacity by Dr. Ilka Wolter.
Department 2 includes the working units Educational Decisions and Social Inequality, Migration, Returns to Education, as well as Structures and Systems; here, the NEPS pillars can be found with a mainly sociological and economic background. The department is led by Prof. Dr. Corinna Kleinert.
Department 3 encompasses the Research Data Centre (RDC), Methods Development, as well as Software Development. The department is led by Prof. Dr. Christian Aßmann.
The Center for Study Management (ZSM) consists of four working units: Study Administration and Controlling, Survey Coordination, Study Communication and Survey Technology. The department is headed by Dr. Jutta von Maurice.

Bodies and Committees

The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories was founded as an association in Berlin on May 29, 2013. The General Meeting of Members decides, among other things, upon changes to its statutes. The Board of Trustees advises and controls the Board of Directors. Their tasks include, for example, the appointment and exoneration of the members of the Board of Directors as well as approving the program budget. The Scientific Advisory Board advises the Board of Trustees on these tasks, considering recommendations by the Senate of the Leibniz Association. It regularly carries out measures of quality assurance in the scientific departments.

Representatives and Elected Offices

Representative officers or elected representatives deal with various tasks and issues concerning the organization. The main contact persons for external parties are the corporate Internal Data Protection unit and the ombudsperson. Furthermore, the LIfBi has elected representatives for its employees (Works Council) and doctoral candidates, representative officers for equal opportunities, inclusion, and safety, as well as corporate health management.
