Sebastian Thürer, born 1977 in Constance – Lake Constance, grown up in Upper Franconia, studied sociology with the focus on sociology of education and migration at Otto – Friedrich –University Bamberg. His subsidiary subject was human geography. Additionally he studied political science with the focus on political systems. In his diploma thesis “The Influence of Migration Background of Teaching Staff on Academic Achievement of Children with Migration Background” he was engaged with the theoretical modelling of educational success with respect to different ethnic background of actors. Besides his studies he worked for the Chair of Sociology 1 (Prof. Dr. Dr. Blossfeld) and the Chair of Sociology, especially Analysis of Social Structures (Prof. Dr. Kristen) as student assistant and tutor in varying courses. From August 2014 till May 2015 he worked as research assistant for the european forum for migration studies (efms). There he was involved in a study for the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency. Following he worked for Pillar 4 in the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), developing items. Since July 2015 he works in the project “Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia”, funded by the Upper Franconian Foundation and situated at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories. His main research interest is the influence of cultural education with regard to educational success in Upper Franconia.
