Lecture series: Dr. Silke Schneider and Verena Ortmanns present instrument for computer-assisted measurement of educational qualifications

On December 15, 2016, this year’s final event of the series “Refugees in Germany–Educational Trajectories and Social Integration” took place: Dr. Silke Schneider and Verena Ortmanns (GESIS–Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences) presented the CAMCES tool developed by them. Their lecture at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) was entitled “Computer-Assisted Measurement and Coding of Educational Qualifications in Multicultural Surveys: A New Set of Survey Tools”.

As part of the lecture series “Refugees in Germany–Educational Trajectories and Social Integration”, Dr. David Schiefer of the Expert Council of German Foundations on Integration and Migration (Sachverständigenrat deutscher Stiftungen für Integration und Migration, Berlin) gave a talk on the “Challenges of empirically assessing the life situations of refugees in Germany” at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi).

“Atlas Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia” published

Today the first result of the project “Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia, BiLO (Bildungslandschaft Oberfranken), which is funded by the Upper Franconia Foundation, has been released to the press at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories.

On the premises of the LIfBi, the “Atlas Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia” was released to the press today. On November 24, 2016, the second contribution to the lecture series “Refugees in Germany–Educational Trajectories and Social Integration“ took place at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi). Here, Dr. Susanne Worbs, Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge, BAMF) reported on a current project concerned with the life situation of people who are entitled to political asylum and recognized refugees in Germany.

As part of the lecture series “Refugees in Germany–Educational Trajectories and Social Integration”, Dr. Susanne Worbs presented results of the BAMF Refugee Study 2014 at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi).

On November 17, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lenhard, Chair of Pedagogical Psychology at the University of Würzburg, visited the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) and gave a talk on the topic “Differenzielle Effkte im Wortschatz- und Leseerwerb: Die Auswirkung von Mehrsprachigkeit am Beispiel von PPVT4 und ELFE II [Differential effects in vocabulary and reading acquisition: impact of multilingualism using the example of PPVT4 and ELFE II]”. His contribution thus launched the lecture series “Refugees in Germany–Educational Trajectories and Social Integration,” which is hosted by the LIfBi as part of project “ReGES–Refugees in the German Educational System”, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF).

BiLO study enters into second round

The BiLO study “Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia (BildungsLandschaft Oberfranken, BiLO)” is starting its second survey of the Upper Franconian population this week. The objective of this wave is to record the educational choices that have been made since the first survey in the fall of last year. In total, 8,159 of the 8,765 respondents (93%) declared that they were willing to participate again.
