webAtlas Educational Landscape for Upper Franconia now available online

5/3/2017

The interactive webAtlas Educational Landscape for Upper Franconia is now available from www.bilo-atlas.de. This new source of information was presented for the first time on April 27, 2017, at a joint seminar of the project “BildungsLandschaft Oberfranken (BiLO, Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia)” and the Franken-Akademie (Franconian Academy) at Castle Schney.

The interactive webAtlas provides users with selected indicators in the fields of early childhood education, education at elementary and secondary level, vocational education, higher education, and adult education in Upper Franconia. Relevant information presented by the webAtlas can be combined as required so that comparisons between districts of the administrative region Upper Franconia are possible. Besides that, this interactive service complements information already provided by the “Atlas Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia“, which was published in December 2016. Furthermore, it helps to find the exact addresses of various educational institutions.

The web application is an additional output from the project “BildungsLandschaft Oberfranken (BiLO, Educational Landscape of Upper Franconia), which is funded by the Oberfrankenstiftung (Upper Franconian Foundation) and located at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsverläufe, LIfBi). The web application was developed in close collaboration with the software development unit at LIfBi. The related source code of the product is freely available and can be adapted.

The seminar was jointly organized by the BiLO-study and the Franconian Academy under the title “Local Educational Infrastructure and Education”. Besides information on the webAtlas, the members of the BiLO-team also presented first results of their project to the 17 participants from various educational institutions and local expert committees. Topics covered included, for example, “Is the way to school a burden?”, “What next after achieving the general higher education entrance qualification?”, or “Vocational orientation of adolescents”. Documents related to these and other topics are available on the website of the Franconian Academy.
