ReGES field start: survey of families has begun

In February, fieldwork started with interviews of refugee families in selected local communities. This survey collects data of parents and adolescents and tests the competencies of children and adolescents.

The preparation of this survey had posed special challenges to the researchers: For example, the ReGES team had to solve the issue of conducting interviews in shared accommodations, introducing people without any interview experience to the process, and giving consideration to the heterogeneity of the target group. Instruments were translated in eight languages. Furthermore, audio files were created so that people who cannot read or write may participate in the interviews. During the training of the interviewers, imparting intercultural competencies receives great emphasis. A special part of the interviewer training serves to create an awareness for the particular situation of refugees.
