New data offering NEPS-SC6-ADIAB available: Linking survey data from the Starting Cohort Adults with administrative data from the IAB

5/24/2018

With the enrichment of the survey and competence data of the NEPS adult cohort with administrative data from the so-called Integrated Employment Biographies of the IAB, a new and innovative data product for scientific analyses is now available to interested researchers.

NEPS-SC6-ADIAB is a data product jointly developed by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). It consists of the information contained in the Scientific Use File of the panel study "Adult Education and Lifelong Learning" as well as information from the IAB's administrative data portfolio, including employee history, benefit recipient history, unemployment benefit II recipient history, jobseeker history, and participants-in-measures history — provided that the respondents have given their consent to the linking of their data and that they could be identified in the data of the IAB. The combination of both data sources makes it possible to address new research questions, in particular those that require detailed income data over the life course. For more information on the data product and the variables, see the IAB-FDZ-Datenreport 02/2018 (in German).

Due to data protection regulations, access to NEPS-SC6-ADIAB is only possible during a guest stay at one of the locations of the Research Data Centre (FDZ) of the Federal Employment Agency at the IAB and subsequent remote data processing. Prerequisite is the conclusion of a data use agreement with both the FDZ-LIfBi and the IAB-FDZ.
