Leading survey statisticians and promising young scientists from Austria, Switzerland, and Germany met at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) from February 13 to 15, 2019, to present and discuss the latest developments in the field of survey statistics. Small area estimation problems, microsimulation and non-probability surveys were the main topics of the event, which takes place every 18 months.
In addition, the statistical methods of the survey approach of Civey were discussed with a representative of the opinion research institute that was founded in 2015. Their approach is based on the automation of representative opinion polls without random sampling. The objective is to enable more accurate forecasts despite the population's declining willingness to participate in surveys.
