ReGES presents itself at BMBF kick-off event for the National Action Plan on Integration


On May 17, the kick-off event of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the National Action Plan on Integration (NAP-I) took place in Berlin. It is the aim of the Federal Government to adapt the National Action Plan on Integration to the current challenges and to further develop and strengthen existing support services for people with a migrant background. The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) contributed its expertise with the project “Refugees in the German Educational System (ReGES)”.

Dr. Jutta von Maurice, Dr. Gisela Will, and Dr. Dominik Weigand presented the panel study ReGES as well as first results to many people from different contexts.  

Various forums were offered as part of the event, among them “Recognition of occupational and educational qualifications as an entry into the labor market" and “Education and training as a foundation for successful integration and participation”. Each of these panels was based on keynote speeches by top-level speakers who opened up the historical perspective on migration and summarized current empirical findings from migration research. Results from the LIfBi project “Refugees in the German Educational System (ReGES)”, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for a period of five years, were also included.

The panels were accompanied by a primarily practice-oriented marketplace where initiatives from the fields of occupational recognition, initial and further vocational training and integration through qualification were presented. The LIfBi exhibited its own information booth presenting the ReGES research project.

Visitors of the kick-off event were recruited from the fields of politics, science and, to a large extent, practice. Thus, migrant self-organizations, social and business associations, parent initiatives, and institutions from the administrative sector were particularly well represented. In various panels, the participants discussed, among other things, current tasks, questions, and solutions with regard to job recognition procedures, conditions of educational processes, possibilities of individual support, educational structures, as well as the role of the family, pedagogical specialists, and migrant organizations for the educational success of migrants and refugees in particular.
