On Thursday, July 23, 2020, the Innovation Circle of the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) started its work. This internal working group composed of LIfBi staff is to develop innovative ideas for improving work processes. The Innovation Circle will initially deal with the topic of sustainability; however in the future, it will also work on other topics. The proposals drawn up by the Innovation Circle serve as a basis for decision-making, which may lead, for example, to the formulation of guidelines for the Institute.
By establishing an innovation circle and focusing on sustainability, LIfBi follows the recommendations of the Leibniz Association for its member institutions. The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) serve as the political frame of reference, which is to be implemented through research on and about sustainability as well as through sustainable research and operating processes. To this end, the Leibniz Association has developed a “Sustainability Mission Statement“ and a handbook providing the framework for a “Culture of Sustainability”. This must be established in the various fields of action and continually developed further. The mission statement is also intended to encourage employees of Leibniz institutions to reflect on their actions and contribute to the sustainable development of society as a whole.
