The National Educational Panel (NEPS), which is based at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) in Bamberg, has been collecting data on the development of competencies and educational trajectories of people throughout Germany for over ten years. It currently consists of six large sub-studies, the so-called start cohorts, which cover all age groups from birth through the education and employment phase up to late adulthood. A further start cohort with pupils in grade 5 will be launched soon. So far, more than 60,000 people have been accompanied by the NEPS, and an additional 40,000 people from their environment, such as parents and educational staff, have been interviewed.
The new "NEPS Call for Modules 2022", which has just been published, is looking for thematic proposals on target dimensions of education (e.g. skills, abilities or attitudes), which will expand the previous NEPS survey programme in the so-called Outcome CATIs (= Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews). The items are to be used in this context in order to continue collecting data on the long-term effects of education in the course of life, especially in the wide-meshed surveying.
The scientific community is invited to submit an outline (approx. 10 pages) of the proposals, including the following aspects:
- Presentation of the rationale behind the submitted questions/items (relevance, theoretical background)
- Explanation of the fit to the selection criteria
- Concrete questions/items (exclusively with a closed response format)
- Proof of the scientific quality of the proposed questions/items
The deadline for submission is October the 31st 2022. The selection will be made in a scientific appraisal procedure. The timetable foresees a decision by the end of December.
