Based on previous research findings and using the longitudinal design of the National Educational Panel (NEPS), the project will analyze students’ profiles of competency development in secondary education. Latent mixed distribution growth curve models will be employed to identify latent groups of persons characterized by different competency developments in the domains of reading and mathematics. In addition, various variables (affective-motivational, socio-cognitive and socio-demographic) will be identified in a theory-based way, which will allow us to predict group affiliation to specific profiles of competency development. For these analyses, competency and questionnaire data are used from the secondary level in Starting Cohort 3–Grade 5–and Starting Cohort 4–Grade 9–of the NEPS.
