Your voice for research: Join the study on children’s health

Children’s perceptions of their own health do not always align with their parents’ views. The AI-SIC collaborative project, led by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) and the University of Leipzig, aims to better understand how parents and children assess children’s health and where differences exist. For this purpose, the project is seeking families with children between the age of 8 and 16 who are willing to participate in short video interviews. By participating, interested families will help generate new insights into children’s health and support the development of innovative research tools based on the latest technological advancements.

The survey is easy to complete and can be easily incorporated into your daily routine:

  • Place: The interview will be conducted remotely via video call from home.
  • Duration: The interview takes about 30 minutes in total.
  • Schedule: The process starts with a 20-minute conversation with one of the parents, followed by a 10-minute discussion with the child.
  • Terms and conditions: Participation is entirely voluntary. All information will be treated as highly confidential and analyzed exclusively in anonymized form.

In recognition of their time and effort, each participating family will receive a gift voucher of their choice, worth 10 euros.

Project combines health research with computer-aided methodological innovation

Participation not only advances research on children’s health but also supports the development of modern research tools. The project is testing how language models can improve the efficiency of the process from interview to final analysis: While software like Whisper handles the automated conversion of audio recordings into text (transcription), a newly developed semi-automated coding tool supports the subsequent content analysis. This semi-automated evaluation makes it possible to identify and categorize key themes in the interviews more quickly. To ensure high quality and protect participants as much as possible, all data is anonymized. Researchers oversee the evaluation throughout the process, review results, and intervene to correct errors if necessary. This ensures the reliability of the analysis and prevents content from being misclassified or interpreted in a biased manner. Initial methodological findings on error rates in the interview transcripts have already been presented at the international ESRA conference.
