Individual feedback for schools in the NEPS study "Education for Tomorrow´s World"

Who do the children in NEPS Starting Cohort 8 "Education for Tomorrow's World" live with? What languages do they speak at home? These and other questions are now answered on an individual school basis in newly designed feedback brochures. At the turn of the year, all schools that have been involved in the "Education for Tomorrow's World" sub-study of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) since 2022 received this new type of results feedback for the first time.

Several hundred representatively selected schools throughout Germany have been taking part in the study since the end of 2022. From now on, they will receive results at the end of each year, which will be calculated individually for each school. A poster and a more detailed brochure provide information on the results of each school, including a comparison with institutions of the same school type and the same larger region in Germany. The topic of the first school-specific feedback was "NEPS schools are this diverse". It showed, for example, which languages the pupils grow up with and which family members they live together.

"With the individual feedback, which contains interesting information about the contexts of school work on site, we want to give the schools insights into our study and thank them for their engagement. I am pleased that we have been able to develop a format that will ensure the provision of feedback - with changing topics - for the coming years," says Prof. Dr. Cordula Artelt, LIfBi Director and Head of the NEPS.

The initial feedback is based on the results of the survey of Year 5 pupils in school year 2022/2023. The evaluations do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about individual schools, teachers, pupils or their parents. The data is only presented in aggregated form. In addition to the children, teachers were also surveyed at the time. Here, for example, the focus was on questions regarding the use of digital methods in lessons, further training, cooperation within the teaching staff and inclusion.

The first data sets for starting cohort 8 prepared for scientific use are expected in the second half of 2024. They will be provided by the LIfBi Research Data Centre as scientific use files in various degrees of anonymization.
