NEPS in the media: Why every fifth prospective teacher takes a different path after graduation

It is a well-known problem that teachers do not switch careers after graduation. High-achieving students in particular are looking for other paths. Welt magazine reported on this on 08.01.2024.

On 08 January 2024, editor Sabine Menkens from the magazine Welt, published the article "Why every fifth prospective teacher takes a different path after graduation", referring to the current debate about the shortage of teaching staff. High-achieving student teachers in particular seem to opt for different career paths after graduation, according to the results of studies by the Verband Bildung und Erziehung and the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories. Expectations of the traineeship and the profession itself presumably have an influence on drop-out rates.
