New Scientific Use File of Starting Cohort 1 (Newborns) released

New data for the NEPS Starting Cohort 1 are now available in version 10.0.0 for scientific use.

The current Scientific Use File (doi:10.5157/NEPS:SC1:10.0.0) contains newly added data from the tenth wave of the Starting Cohort of newborns. The field period ranged from April 2021 to October 2021. The two-part survey consisted of a telephone interview with a parent or guardian (CAPI-by-Phone) and a visit to the home for administering three competency tests (DGCF Basic Cognitive Skills, Science, Vocabulary Listening Comprehension) using technology-based testing (TBT) and a self-administered child interview (CASI) on a tablet PC. The competency tests and child interviews were flanked by a framework CAPI with parents. If a home visit was not possible or desired, the families received an invitation to complete the child online interview (CAWI) subsequent to the parent interview. The Field Report on the website in the section „Documentation“ provides detailed information on the content and the realization of this survey wave. There you will also find the Data Manual for getting started to work with the data, the Release Notes with explanations on the current data edition, and numerous other materials.
