Politics meets science: LIfBi at Leibniz in the Bavarian State Parliament

How can scientific findings advance politics and society? On May 20 and 22, 2025, a new dialog format will bring political decision-makers together with researchers from the eight Bavarian Leibniz Institutes and research museums. The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) is participating with a wide range of topics.

Educational research can provide answers to pressing social questions. Whether it is the promotion of digital skills, the importance of education for professional careers, the integration of refugee children or social cohesion in times of crisis - the LIfBi has been providing scientifically sound findings and practical impetus for over ten years.

At Leibniz im Landtag, members of parliament can talk to LIfBi researchers and gain valuable background information for their political work. A total of 16 LIfBi researchers will be taking part and will be available to discuss key topics in educational research, e.g:

  • Does a longer kindergarten period strengthen language, social skills or other abilities?
  • How can needs-based funding of schools be effectively implemented?
  • What influence does social background have on school performance and educational trajectories?
  • How can refugee children and young people participate in education?
  • How can schools and learners develop digital skills in order to operate independently and safely in a digitalized world?
  • What role do educational goals and career aspirations play in later careers?

The talks last one hour and can be attended by both MPs and their staff. Booking is possible until April 30, 2025.

Leibniz in Parliament is a new transfer format of the Leibniz Association. In Bavaria, in addition to the LIfBi, the German Museum of Masterpieces of Science and Technology (Munich), the Germanisches Nationalmuseum - Leibniz Research Center for Cultural History (GNM, Nuremberg), the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research (ifo Institute, Munich), the Institute for Contemporary History (IfZ, Munich), the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS, Regensburg), the Leibniz Institute for Immunotherapy (LIT, Regensburg) and the Leibniz Institute for Food Systems Biology at the Technical University of Munich (LSB, Freising).
