9/29/2025 Inequality in educational opportunities at Bavarian schools Prof. Dr. Marcel Helbig analyzed the responses of the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture to a parliamentary inquiry from the Green Party regarding transfers and departures at high schools and secondary schools in Bavaria. The focus is on recommendations and actual transfers, differences between urban and rural regions, and family background. Among other factors, he concludes that the place of residence and social status of parents are the main factors determining the choice of school type after elementary school. The Bavarian school system thus systematically produces inequalities.
