How do societal disruptions change education, knowledge, and science? And how can these complex topics be communicated in a way that is both understandable and engaging? With the new project “Transformation Slam – Education, Knowledge and Science in Transition", the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi), in collaboration with the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (GNM), is breaking new ground to communicate research on societal transformations in a clear and vivid way.
At the heart of the project is a public science slam scheduled for early 2027, where researchers will present their work on societal disruptions in a concise, creative, and audience-friendly manner on stage. The format is aimed at a broad public and invites attendees to discover current research beyond traditional lecture formats. Researchers from LIfBi and GNM, as well as from other Leibniz Institutes, are eligible to participate; a call for submissions will be published shortly. Entries will be selected by a jury based on criteria such as thematic relevance, scientific rigor, and clarity of presentation.
An important component of the project is the professional development of the participating researchers: Through workshops and individual coaching sessions, they learn to adapt their research so that it is understandable to a diverse audience and to present it in a vivid and engaging manner. This not only results in an entertaining event format but also builds lasting expertise in the field of science communication.
The “Transformation Slam” is funded as part of the Leibniz Lab “Social Upheavals and Transformations,” in which 28 Leibniz Institutes pool their expertise on key societal changes. The project aims to strengthen the dialogue between academia and society and to test new forms of outreach. The accompanying multimedia documentation and public relations efforts ensure that the content remains visible beyond the event and can be used as resources for knowledge transfer and learning.
The project runs from June 2026 to May 2027.
