The working unit "NEPS-Post-School Education" is dedicated to the study of educational trajectories, educational processes, and transitions following the completion of the first general education school paths. A special focus is placed on the complex transitions from school to vocational preparation, vocational training, and academic education, as well as the transition to the labor market. Additionally, the unit considers general education qualifications, retraining, and new vocational qualifications. In contrast to the first general education school paths, training, and academic careers, educational processes later in life are less institutionalized and can theoretically take place at any time and at any age. Thus, the unit also focuses on these non-formal and informal educational opportunities.
The working unit "NEPS Post-School Education" accompanies the implementation and documentation of these educational processes in the starting cohorts 4, 6, and 8 of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) in both conceptual and planning terms. The unit provides support to the head of the department "Educational Decisions and Processes, Migration, Educational Returns" in the further development of the content and methodology of those NEPS starting cohorts in which post-school educational processes are observed. It acts as an interface between the head of department and the post-school educational stages in the NEPS. It develops a respective measurement concept for the corresponding NEPS stages and survey methodological standards as well as conducts independent research.
