New research data from the second survey wave of the TAEPS study published

Fuß, Daniel

A new release of the Scientific Use File of the study “Teachers in Adult Education - A Panel Study” (TAEPS) is now available as version 2.0 for empirical analyses.

The current Scientific Use File supplements the existing database with carefully curated and documented data from the second wave of the teacher panel survey. The data collection took place between March and August 2025. Respondents were participants from the first wave of the panel survey as well as newly recruited teachers in the field of adult and continuing education, including people from a representative population sample. The survey consisted of an online questionnaire (CAWI, or alternatively CATI) and a web-based competency assessment (CBWA).

Detailed information on the implementation of the second panel wave can be found in the corresponding Methods Report in the “Documentation” section of the website listed below. The updated Data Manual, which serves as the key guideline for understanding the TAEPS study and for working with the TAEPS research data, is also available there. Additional materials include, among other things, the Instruments both in the original field version and in the enriched SUF version, the Codebook with frequency distributions of all variables, and the Scales Manual providing a description of the competency measures with recoding of items and their assignment to (sub)dimensions of a scale.

Use of the research data from the TAEPS study requires the conclusion of a Data Use Agreement. The relevant application form, along with explicit instructions on how to complete the document, are also provided on the TAEPS website. If there is already a valid agreement in place, the new Scientific Use File can be downloaded from the website without any further action.

Please note: The new Scientific Use File fully replaces the previous Scientific Use File. It includes the data from the institution survey and the first wave of the teacher panel survey that were already available, supplemented by the new data from the second wave of the panel survey. As a general rule, it is recommended to always conduct analyses based on the latest version of the database.
