11th International NEPS Conference on December 10-11, 2026 – Call for Papers: Abstracts for paper or poster presentations on current findings based on data from the National Educational Panel Study can be submitted for the open-topic conference until September 15. Please visit the conference website for more information. Participation in this English-language event is free of charge. Early registration via the formular on the website is recommended.

NEPS Publication Award – Nomination deadline ends soon: Applications for the “NEPS Publication Award, which is presented annually by the LIfBi and comes with a prize of 1,000 EUR, are welcome until July 31. Eligible are self-nominations and nominations by others of works based on NEPS data that were published in 2025 (including “online first”). Details on the criteria and the selection process are available on the website.

INSIDE – Unique data source on school inclusion available: Researchers can now use the Scientific Use File with carefully edited data from the five-wave panel study INSIDE – “Inclusion in and after lower secondary education in Germany” – for their own analyses. Access to the data requires the signing of an INSIDE Data Use Agreement. The respective application form as well as all documentation materials, including the data manual, are provided on the website.

TAEPS – Data from the second wave of the survey among teachers in adult and continuing education released: The Scientific Use File of the TAEPS study – “Teachers in Adult Education” – is now available in Version 2.0 for research purposes, including the newly added survey and competency data from the second wave of the teachers’ panel. Here, too, use of the data is bound to the conclusion of a Data Use Agreement.

NEPS Data Trainings 2026 – Two courses remaining: A training session covering the basic modules will take place on October 9, and another session featuring advanced modules on weighting, competency data, and merging strategies will be held on November 20. Participation in these online sessions is free of charge. To register, please send an informal e-mail to the FDZ-LIfBi. The same applies to arranging a specially tailored and flexible “Training on Demand” session.

NEPScomp – Tutorials as additional source of information: The simplified NEPScomp database, which is particularly designed for students and for use in university teaching, now also features two video presentations (in German only). A short version and a long version illustrate the key features of NEPScomp and explain how it differs from the regular Scientific Use Files of the National Educational Panel Study.

Key services – An overview: The FDZ-LIfBi offers a range of services and tools related to the research data portfolio. These include the online variable search, the Forum4MICA, a series of video tutorials, frequent data trainings, the enrichment of survey data with regional indicators, NEPStools for Stata and NEPSscaling as an R package for generating “plausible values,” the newsletter “LIfBi data”, and a personal profile overview via the NEPS website including a list of all data use projects.

Forum4MICA – Seeking feedback on usage and potential improvements: The online forum supplements traditional data documentation and user support services by providing an interactive and transparent format. To help further develop this platform, a short feedback survey consisting of a handful of questions will be posted on the Forum4MICA later this month. We hope for broad participation.
