As part of the ReGES study, refugee children and adolescents, their families, as well as educational professionals and other persons of reference were interviewed in several survey waves. Parents and adolescents provided information on personal and flight-specific characteristics as well as on their lives and educational experiences in Germany. They also had the opportunity to report on their educational goals and future aspirations. In the third wave of the survey, the focus was entirely on the refugee families: among the parents and adolescents, characteristics about the family educational environment and social capital that are relevant for educational processes were recorded in particular. In contrast to the data of the previously published SUF, this time the pedagogical professionals as well as the full-time and voluntary workers in the communities and community shelters were not surveyed.

With the second SUF publication, the RDC-LIfBi expands its offer and makes the processed and documented data available free of charge on the already known website www.reges-data.de/en-us for registered data users. Prerequisites for data access are the conclusion of a data use contract and the affiliation of the data users to a scientific institution. Further information on the study design, the implementation of the surveys, and the instruments, data, and access options can be found on the website.

Another SUF release with survey waves four through seven of the ReGES study is planned at a later time in 2022.

The sample of the ReGES project, which ended in 2021, is the starting point for the study "Bildungswege von geflüchteten Kindern und Jugendlichen" (Educational Trajectoriers of Refugee Children and Adolescents), which is also funded by the BMBF. Within the framework of this study, further data collections are planned for the years 2022 and 2024, with the help of which the educational and occupational trajectories of the children and young people respectively will be documented in the coming years. This will also allow the medium- and long-term integration of refugee families to be studied. The data collected in the new project will be integrated into the ReGES dataset and also made available to the scientific community.
